Hello ladies,
I’ve started a threat on a forum to find out what you ladies would like to
know most and one area that keeps cropping up is foundations! Now I will do a
blog on what in my opinion are the best foundations for different skins but I’m
just getting all the evidence together!! Look out for it though!
So this blog we are going to look at how best to apply your foundation
including the right brushes.
1. Firstly we need to moisturise. Moisturising plumps up the skin, stops it
from over reacting and causing spots, stops it from getting dry and also
hydrates. Before you move onto the next step blot your face with tissue first. This
will get off any excess oil or residue that hasn’t been absorbed into the skin.
2. Apply a primer where you need it with your fingers. For most women this
is the T-Zone, but if you suffer from fine lines around the eyes etc then a
primer can help. If your oily choose an oil free or water based primer such as
bare essentials or Laura Mercer oil free primer. If you have normal or dry skin
choose a silicone primer such as Benefit Cosmetics The Porefessional or Clarins
Beauty Flash Balm.
3. Concealer is next. You can either apply concealer with your ring finger
or lately I have been using a real techniques crease fluff brush. It’s really
great for getting into those nooks and crannies so to speak!! A great concealer
I have been using is Macs select cover up. It has a skin finish and blends
lovely. It will dry leaving no texture or chalkiness behind. Make sure it’s
buffed nicely into the skin. Buffing is using light circular motions (think
waxing a car!)
4. Next is your foundation of choice! I love love love real techniques
expert face brush. It looks more like a blush brush but it gives an amazing
flawless finish and it leaves no tell tale foundation brush lines behind. Again
buff the foundation into your skin with light circular motions (remember the
car!) if your foundation is slightly too light or slight too dark buff the
foundation past your jaw line, down your neck to avoid the tell tale tide line
mark. Remember to buff the foundation over your eyes, lips and your ears
lightly so it gives a nice blank canvas. If your skin is really oily, lightly
blot the face again with tissue. This will remove any excess oil the foundation
has in it. Only lightly though as you do not want to remove any foundation and
spoil what you have just done.
5. Wait for it to dry!! Brush your hair, wash your hands do anything other
than touch your face while it’s drying!!
6. Next you need to apply some loose powder to set. Ideally get a
translucent powder so it doesn’t affect the foundation colour. Laura Mercer
does a great one and macs prep+prime loose powder is great also. Budget saving
is collection 2000's loose powder. I always have a pot of this floating about! Tap
the excess off the brush onto the lid and pat (stipple) this into the face
around your T-Zone. You can go heavy around the nose with the powder. Next use
your brush (I currently use No 7 powder brush) and buff the powder out
towards your cheeks, neck and forehead. This will ensure you are pushing the
powder into the skin and you aren’t brushing it off the skin instead.
You should now be left with a beautiful flawless blank canvass.
