Bobbi Brown Oil Free Even Skin Compact Foundation Review

Good Morning ladies! Today I am going to review a compact foundation. I know from personal experience that it would be great to carry around a little compact of foundation to do top ups throughout the day to keep your make up looking fresh and I have heard great things about Bobbi Brown's Oil Free Even Finish Compact. I have been wearing it for a week now in the colour sand and feel I can make an honest and helpful review.
Product Case

The case is very typical of Bobbi Brown (and similar to Mac) in that it’s black with a white logo. Very simple, but looks kind of expensive in a way, even though it’s only plastic!

The compact is quite large and has a mirror in the lip top that’s pretty good and underneath the foundation is a compartment for the sponge to go into.

Overall a simple, but very user friendly design.

Application

I don’t normally use a sponge so I first of all tried to use a foundation brush to apply. This didn’t seem to be working out though, so I switched to the sponge it came with, which was much better. The sponge isn’t very substantial though and I have a feeling it will disintegrate in a short while! Also sponges are known germ harbingers so I'm not too comfortable with using one for very long. Also I didn’t really like the smell of the foundation.

The look

I was quite surprised with the effect it gave. As with most compacts it felt heavy on the skin, but actually gave quite a sheer finish. It wasn’t sticky and my face felt soft and dry.  It didn’t cover my blemishes very well though or my dark circles under my eyes and it didn’t blend well with my concealer. I ended up swapping round my routine and putting my concealer on after my foundation so that the applicator sponge wouldn’t rub off my concealer when applying.

It lasted ok, but not as good as I was expecting and it did cake a little by the end of the day. I wouldn’t think it would be very good to keep in your bag as a touch up product as to get a good effect you would need to apply with a sponge, which would smear any make up you had on already and wouldn’t blend well with another foundation.

Overall I didn’t really rate this product. It retails at around a whopping £31 and I really don’t think it’s worth the price tag. This foundation might be good for people who don’t really know how best to apply foundation or are trying foundation for the first time or people who apply their make up on a train (people do I promise!). The sheer finish will mean that you can’t really over apply and it also blended into my face well. I wouldn’t recommend for anyone with blemishes or uneven skin tone as it really won’t cover these areas.

I think foundations have moved on since this formula was created and I think you can get much better foundations that will perform miracles with your skin for a much cheaper price.
